We have had a number of queries regarding weighted pencils to help with handwriting for those with poor motor skills.   A hwile ago I did an online search and could only find one type of weighted pencil available in the UK priced at nearly £30!

Subsequently I had a play around with our Chewbuddy Tubes which were originally designed to be a chewy pencil topper for those kids that can't stop chewing the top of their pen or pencil.   What I found was that these tubes when squeezed over the pencil make a great pencil grip and also make a pencil much heavier.  Not only does this make the pencil easier to grip it adds weight which can be beneficial for students who do not press hard enough when writing or for students who have poor body awareness and need additional proprioceptive input to increase awareness of their hand.  The pencil can also be chewed - the tubes are made from latex free medical grade material.

It can be a bit of squeeze to get the tubes right onto the pencil but the easiest way to do this is too pop them in a cup of hot water for about five minutes.  This makes them softer and more pliable so you can get them on the pencil easily tot he desire position.   Let them cool and away you go!

Chewbuddy Tubes cost £4.95 for a set of 2 (1 smooth and 1 with dimples for sensory feedback) or £7.95 for a set of 4.
