We have had a number of queries regarding weighted pencils to help with handwriting for those with poor motor skills.

I recently did an online search and could only find one weighted pencil available in the UK for £30!

Subsequently, I looked at our Chewbuddy Tubes which were designed to be a chewy pencil topper for kids that can't stop chewing the top of their pencil.

I found that these tubes, when squeezed over the pencil, make a great pencil grip and also make a pencil much heavier.

Benefits Of Weighted Pencils

Not only do the tubes make the pencil easier to grip, it also adds weight. Weight can be beneficial for students who do not press hard enough when writing.

They also benefit students who have poor body awareness and need additional proprioceptive input to increase awareness of their hand.

The pencil can also be chewed - the tubes are made from latex free, medical grade material.

Good To Know:

It can be a bit of squeeze to get the tubes right onto the pencil but the easiest way to do this is to pop them in a cup of hot water for about five minutes.

This makes them softer and more pliable so you can get them on the pencil easily to the desired position.   Let them cool and away you go!

Chewbuddy Tubescost £5.40 for a set of 2 (1 smooth and 1 with dimples for sensory feedback), £9 for a set of 4 or £16.80 for a set of 8.
